Post 27- Wiki in the Class

Wiki in class is a great learning tool. After reading each assignment or watching the videos there are questions to be answered. We do not now if there are right or wrong answer but there is a table that shows how many answered. I really enjoy wiki.

I love how someone can make a comment on your paper with out marking over it. I really enjoy learning more about Google.

Post 25 - Blogging in the class

I really love blogging. I'm still not a writer but blogging is a way to add your taughts or ideas on paper and post to the web for others to review. I want to get past writing just three sentences. I want to write more. I'm sure blogging will inhanse my writing skills if I keep it up. I really enjoy blogging. Blogging is like quiet time in the library. When the whole class is blogging they are focus and you hear the keyboards clacking. Other English teachers should enforce blogging in their class. This is really a good way to encourge everyone to write.

Post 23- Death 2

When you think of death, you think of something dark and sad. When death occurs the family gathers for a funeral or repast. The death process is horrible. I recall the death of my father, he was killed in California. I did not see his body until the day of his burial. It was the saddest day of my life, I was 14 years old. He was laying in that casket not looking like the father I knew. Just before the people closed the casket they wheeled it in front of me. I was seated between my grandmother and aunt, they stood me up and I swear I saw tears running down my dad's face. I hit the floor after that, when I woke up I was in the back of the limo. On June 2, 1985, was the worst day of my life.

Post 22 - Death

Death is a termination of a living organism. I have not seen anyone die in front of me but I have quite a few people I  know who has died. My best friend died in her daughter's arm. I can't imaging what she may go through at times. No one knows when it's their time to go. Emily Dickinson wrote a poem about death. The title of the poem is "Because I could not stop for death". In her poem she said "because I could not stop for death but he kindly stopped for me". I gathered she wasn't ready to die but death was ready for her. We don't know when death will come, some of us maybe afraid of death. We don't know how we may die but we do know death will come.

Post 21- Dickinson

Emily Dickinson was a great American poet. She was never married but she spent most of her time in a room writing poetry. It was believed that Dickinson's poetry was inspired by her "closest earthly friend"(Rev. Charles Wadsworth).  Dickinson defined herself as a woman writer. Her poems was inspired by metaphysical poets of the seventieth century.

Post 20 - Myth in My life

There is not an a myth in my life more like superstitions. Growing up I use to hear "if you step on a crack, you'll break your mama's back. I tried hard not to step on a crack but did anyhow. My mom's back is working just fine. I also heard when I was growing up " he who findth a wife find a good thing", I think that is a myth. I have seen so many marry and divorce. Therefore, this is a story I have heard over and over again. The marry couple I know are constantly fighting or cheating. I can I determine this myth is true?

Post 19- Myths in Poetry

A myth is natural through symbolic expressions. Poetry is also an expression of feelings and ideas. Myth and poetry both serve in the expression of significant emotions. Myth has several functions that such as truth, experience, and entertainment. Myth provides reason for happening, therefore through poetry you can almost feel what the writer is
writing about or imagine what the author is writing about. Myth in poetry gives a good image of the natural and social order. Myths in poetry describes the emotions of jealousy, love, or sadness of the author. Reading myth make sense that they are designed to know ones feelings.

Post 18- A symbol in one of the Poems we have read

In the poem "Root Cellar", by Theodore Roethke, the symbol is a underground storage room. You have old houses that were built with a cellar. The cellar is located outside from the rest of the house. Sometimes its very damp, filled with spider webs, and other creatures. Most people who have a cellar uses it for storage, therefore they may not go down there all the time so it may not be the best cleaned area of the house. Some cellar or most cellar you will see may be a little smelly because there is no windows or air conditioning. Some cellar was built to protect you from the storms such as tornados.

Post 17 - Someone Else Symbol

I asked Crystal Phillips' symbol is the Jamaican flag. I asked her what it means she said her entire family. Jamaica is an island that was claimed by Christopher Columbus for Spain in the 1400's. Later in the 1600's it was ruled under the Great Britain government that when it was named Jamaica. What I know about Jamaica is reggae. Reggae is the type of music in Jamaica. I heard that it is a very beautiful island. As far as the flag it's green, black, and yellow. It's looks similar to the confederate flag except for the colors and the starts. Crystal shared with me that she visited when she was little. The flag is important to her because she appreciates her culture, she appreciates her mom especially.

Post 16 - Symbol in My Life

The symbol in my life is my zodiac sign. I believe that my sign is a very independent sign. I usually examine my M shaped symbol and relate it to my life. The symbol seems very simple and easy to copy. It looks very neat and perfect. If it's broke a part you can easily put it back together. This symbol looks complacent. It looks like it happy just being. This m shape symbol, symbolizes ME.

Post 15- Critical Perspective

Critical perspective involves adopting a viewpoint. My critical perspective story was the Yellow Wallpaper. In the Yellow Wallpaper, women did not have rights. It was a man world during those time. So my viewpoint about this story was that the wife had rights to live and give opinions if necessary.

Post 13 - Poem

I love the poems written by Maya Angelou! One of my favorites is "Strong Woman".

"You may encounter many defeats,
but you must not be defeated. In fact,
it may be necessary to encounter the defeats,
so you can know who you are, what you can rise
from, how you can still come out of it."

I have experience many defeats and I keep on keeping on. This poem is a great inspiration when I meet some bumps alone the way. Some poems can be very inspiring that why I truly enjoy reading her poems. She has written other poems about a strong woman, but this one I just love. Thank you Maya Angelou for being an inspiration.

Post 11- Women Writers

I think women writers are so infuential. I love women writers like Maya Angelou. She wrote many poems. Her peoms gives inspiration to women mainly black women. Phenomenal Woman is my favorite poem, I love the part of the poem that reads "The span of my hips, the stride of my step, the curl of my lips, I'm a woman, Phenomenally". That gives me courge as a woman to be proud of being a woman and hold my head up high and embrace being a woman. I also enjoy other writers such as Alice Walker, she wrote the book " The Color Purple" which later turned into a movies. I also enjoy reading books written by Terry McMillian, "Waiting to Exhale" and "How Stella got her groove back". How Stella got her groove back was about a divorce woman looking for love took a trip with her friend and found a young man that made her feel beautiful and loved. In reading some of these stories you put yourself in the main characters shoes or you can relate to certain plots in the stories. Women are emotional individual, therefore reading a book written by a woman you might just feel the emotions in the book.

Post 10- Gender Criticism

Gender criticism is an extension of feminist literary criticism. Gender criticism perceives men and women as different. Gender roles are cultural and personal. It's determined by how men and women should think, speak, dress, and interact with society. The same thing applies with gender criticism. Gender criticism comes to play with what words are used by men or women. Criticized by how they are stereotyped are reinforced or deconstructed.

Post 8 - What something that you carry on your person or in your pockets symbolizes for you

I am a simple girl who don't require much to make me happy. I had this friend that would buy me any and just about everything. One day she went shopping for one of her dinner parties and she purchased pocket size mirrors for all of her guest. I was not apart of the dinners but I was more her driver. She purchased these mirror about three years ago.I have this blue rubber looking mirror I keep in my purse. It was a gift from a very special person who I will never forget. That mirror symbolize all the shopping sprees I encounter with the person that gave me the mirror. It symbolize all the party favorites she would give her friends when giving a dinner party. The blue rubber mirror symbolize beauty. The beauty of the person that gave the mirror and the beauty of the person that's looking in the mirror (me).

Not the one in the picture but similar.

Post 7- Wikipedia Article

The Wikipedia article I will be writing about is the Yellow Wallpaper. The Yellow Wallpaper is about a woman who thinks she's seeing a woman in the wallpaper. Her husband and brother both are doctors of high standards. She describes the house she's staying at as creepy. The story was written by Charlotte Gilman, who experienced a severe depression after the birth of her daughter. The character in the both is more like the author, she suffer from depression also. I think the store is more about the life of the author. The book is very interesting.

Post 6 - The setting of a Different Story We've Read

I recently read the "Yellow Wallpaper". In the Yellow Wallpaper, I could not figure out what the setting was at first. In the beginning the Narrator told the story as if she was moving in this big creepy house with her husband who was a doctor. I kept reading and she was telling the story that she was locked in a room. She also told the story that she was seeing a woman in the wallpaper. After I kept reading I realize the setting must be in a mental hospital. A setting is the location or period in which a play, film, or novel take place.

Post 5 - The Character in Story We've Read

The most recent story we've read was " The Fall of the House of Usher". The character in the story is Roderick Usher and the Narrator. The Narrator is the person who is telling the story about his beliefs of Roderick Usher and his experience of being around Usher. Roderick Usher is very educated and comes from a wealthy family. He was once a good looking man, his appearance later changed because of his insanity.  Usher's character believes in the supernatural because he sees and hears things. Madeline Usher was the twin sister of Roderick. Madeline is not mention much in the story except when she gets locked in the vault and then buried. Madeline's character seems to be mental also. The Narrator believes that his friend Usher has mental issues that are not resolved. The Narrator tries to rationalize the fantasies Usher is having. The Narrator really do not understand Usher but the Narrator is superstitious.

Post 4 - What I've learned about my Wikipedia topic

My topic is "Mending Wall". There is not much about this poem that I have found. I think I should change to something else that I feel comfortable with. There is no copyright dates, therefore no one knows when the author really wrote the poem. I found out that the author Robert Frost did his best work in London. I can find more information about the author than the poem. I really want to reconsider my topic.

Post 3- Short story or Poem

I had my mind made up to write about "A Good Man is hard to fine". I wanted write about that because I can relate. I know there is no such thing as a perfect man but a decent man would be nice to have. As women we try to uphold a certain standard but we keep fooling ourselves by thinking we have found that one. The saying says a Good Man is hard to fine, but if we meet a good one and don't know how to recognize him. Mr. Hamon wants us to write about the poem called" Mending Wall". Mending Wall was written by Robert Frost, there is not a true date of when it was written. As I read about Mr. Frost he loved to visit London and he wrote his best poems while visiting London. I would assumed that he was visiting London when he wrote this poem Mending Wall. I have never been to London but looking at the pictures, the building and the texture of brick the buildings are made of are much different from places in the United States. If you see certain pictures most homes has walls  next to it. I will assumed the walls he was speaking of was from  London. I will continue to research it more to understand the poem better and determine the reason for the poem.

Post 2- Protagonist

Protagonist is the leading character or major character in movie, novel, drama, or other fiction text. My favorite movie is the Color Purple. The movie told the life of a poor black woman named Celie.. Celie was being abused at the age of 14. She had two kids by the man she believed to be her father but later found out after his death that he was her stepfather. Celie is the protagonist in this movie. Celie character was a poor uneducated black woman that a had a very bad upbringing. Her stepfather rapes her and takes her babies away from her and give them to another couple to raise. She also had an abusive husband who she later leaves when she finds out he kept letters away from her that was written by her sister. Her only real family that she had left. Protagonist are the main figures or one of the prominent figures in a real situation.
